All right, just what the devil is going on over there in Brooklyn?
I read all the reports, looks like the Nets Arena project/development from hell got the greenlight it needed to proceed to the next step.
Or did it ?
In what amounted to a closed process - something that things in the public interested arent' supposed to be - the project was greenlighted without (and despite) the input of those in the community.
New York State apparently approved the basic outline for the project, but it doesn't appear that this means everything is said and done. Or maybe it does. It's still too tough to call, between the fight and the lawsuit and all the protests, pro and con.
Anyone know if the Devils arena is still on schedule for Newark? And it there a configuration for basketball??
The Brooklyn Borough President wants it. That's sure a surprise.
The people in the neighborhood where it's going don't seem to want it. That's not a surprise either.
But, build we must. Ratner the Owner stands to make billions in the deal. So too do certain people attached to it. The only loss as far as I can tell by reading all the materials is to New Jersey fans, and apparently Brooklyn is so close and so convenient to get to, there won't be any loss at all.
Was the Continental Airlines Arena optimal for a basketball team? No. No way.
But it was in New Jersey, and it certainly could have been made to be so. Not for the New York fans who weren't coming, but for New Jersians who should have been.
I have a lot to say about this thing that's dragged on for years (was it really 2004 when I led a failed protest effort?), but I really have to read up on the latest and greatest before I comment further.
But do I want the Nets in Brooklyn.
Hell no.
How do we make that happen, considering there is so much money to be made by people who shouldn't be making it?
That's the question to be explored.
How do you feel about the situation? Does it come down to "if you live in NYC, or Brooklyn, you're for it, and if you live in NJ you're against it?"
Let me know.
