#6 Kenyon Martin
Player File
The Number One pick of the 2000 draft.

Kenyon Martin – F
Joe: Kenyon, we're sorry we doubted you at the beginning of the year. We mistook your still-mending broken leg as a sign of lethargy. Proved us wrong, big time. Had a huge 20 game stretch right before being Palacio'd near the end of the season. Came on strong offensively, adding a jump shot to his arsenal of dunks. Was born to play defense and rebound, and combined with Kidd and Jefferson, he could make the All-Defender team this season. His upside is still huge, and if he hits that outside shot consistently, look out. The Nets will go as Martin goes - that's my prediction.

Champagne: Martin's increasingly excellent play was the #2 reason for even bothering to watch a Net game last season, right behind simply watching Marbury (was there even a number 3?) If I could nominate myself to Kenyon's #1 plumper, past his mother, I would. While I wait for Moral Court to take action on my request, I'd like Kidd-to-Martin no-look alley-oops to become such outrageous commonplaces this season that they eventually bore me. With his verticle leap and newfound jump shot, there's no reason an unhurt Martin won't eventually make his mark as one of the great all-time forwards in the NBA.
