Player File
Jefferson, 21, is a 6' 7" rookie from the University of Arizona. He was drafted 13th overall.

2001 - 2002 Jefferson Honors:
Named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month on February 4, 2002.
Voted to the All-Rookie Second Team for the 2001 - 2002 season by the league's coaches (he came in seventh overall). Came in a distant second to Pau Gasol of Memphis for Rookie of the Year, for which the media votes.

Richard Jefferson – F
Joe: The first of the Nets picks in the draft after sending Eddie Griffin to Houston. Jefferson already has an NBA quality defensive game, and is a hard-working athletic body the Nets can use to run all over the court. His outside shot is suspect, and he may be a bit of a 'tweener, shuffling between shooting guard and small forward, but he'll find ways to score. Just like Kendall Gill. But trust me, he's no Kendall Gill. Will be the rookie who makes the biggest splash on the team this year, and will probably see the most playing time by years' end. Guy has been quoted as saying he wants to win – what every Nets fan wants to hear.

Champagne: What is hamburger? Chopped ham? No, it's chopped steak. Wishing Jefferson will lean harder towards the guard side of his 'tweenerhood this season, but I may be making the mistake those patsies made in that old A-1 steak sauce commercial. We're packed with forwards already, aren't we? Could I be given a break with the forwards? Could I just get some ketchup for my guard? I don't care what it's made of. Somebody shoot. Somebody score.
