#1 Brandon Armstrong |
Brandon
Armstrong G Known For: Shooter's mentality, high-scoring college career at Pepperdine, potential at either guard position. The Real Deal: A serious reach at #23 in 2001, he looked lost, lonely and scared whenever he entered the game. Mercifully, Byron Scott figured it out and edited him from the program. Had a horrific summer league trying to learn to play the point. This year's official Joe Netsfan whipping boy, if he sticks around. Joe's Take: When the pick was made, I remember saying "Who?" Far be it from me to question Rod Thorn, but as far as I'm concerned, Tamar Slay made more of an impression in a week than Armstrong did all of last season. I feel myself getting sad ("Shit! Armstrong's deploying!") every time he enters the game. As a number one pick, he may survive and wind up on the injured list with a pulled whatever, but frankly, since the roster is at least 10 deep, Armstrong's probably gonna be buried deeper than Jimmy Hoffa, if he sticks around. Champagne's Take: Potential NBA career death has Armstrong jumpy. If at all possible, he needs to relax and listen to his coaches and maybe he'd keep his turnovers down. He doesn't demonstrate any sense of being in tune with the game he needs to learn to have some fun out there, too. The fates will be what they'll be for Armstrong very easy for a jackass who hasn't worked his whole short life to make it to the NBA, like me, to say. Well, I never liked his appearances in the fourth quarters of last season's blow-outs; he acted too eager to loft a shot, any shot, to get himself on the stat sheet. I don't hold much faith in him remaining on the Nets for long.
