Denver Nuggets
(33 - 31) - Wednesday, March 10, 2004, 7:30 PM - Continental Airlines Arena Golden Nugget The once-golden Nuggets arrive in East Rutherford with their shiny new trinket (Carmelo Anthony) showing signs of wear and their fortunes on the skids. The Nuggets had lost three straight (at home, no less) and 8 of their last 9 (their only win? The Knicks) before winning last night in Washington, DC, getting caught up in the playoff avalanche (the once red-hot Trail Blazers have again faltered, leaving the Nuggets a game ahead of the Jazz and 2 1/2 ahead of the Blazers for the eighth and final Western Conference playoff spot). What to make of all this? Well, if the Nugs can hang on, they get to play the Kings of Sacramento. Not much golden about that. Can the Nets take the shine off the rookie Anthony (remember, he torched Kenyon Martin to the tune of 26 points 8 days ago) and mine the Nuggets for a welcome home win? Or will the Nuggets hock the Nets' home court dominance with a road victory? - Joe Denver Nuggets Cheat Sheet The Story from Denver: The Nuggets set some standard for futility in their 97 - 66 loss to the Pistons on Friday night. Not one Nugget managed to score more than 9 points, becoming the first team in 54 years to fail to have a player score in double figures. Said coach Jeff Bzdelik: "Over 82 games you're going to have a lot of jewels and some bummers. This was a bummer." How bad was the loss? "That was just embarrassing," Jon Barry said. "Take your pick. Anything basketball-related, you can say we were bad at it." Pain Game: PF Ryan Bowen (knee), SG Jeff Trapagnier (knee) and C Mark Pope (knee) are on injured reserve.
