Trash or Treasure?
Are the Nets and Spurs ready to make art this time out? The Spurs are next on the schedule for the first time since that disappointing fourth quarter of Game 6 in last year's Finals, and suddenly their two money players, Tim Duncan and Tony Parker and back in the lineup and healthy after missing time. The Nets just can't catch a break, can they? Things have changed for both squads: both teams were, shall we say, offensively challenged when they last met but have reloaded (the Spurs added Ron Mercer, Rasho Nesterovic, and Hedo Turkoglu, among others, while the Nets brought in Alonzo "AFLAC" Mourning), Jason Kidd "interviewed" in San Antoine before coming back into the fold in New Jersey and the injury bug hit both teams early in this season. The Nets will still be without Lucious Harris, Rodney Rogers and probably Kenyon Martin and Brian Scalabrine, while the Spurs are getting healthy, so can the Nets make art out of pain? Or will the Spurs and pop artist Duncan smash the Nets' winning canvas?

San Antonio Spurs Cheat Sheet
The Story from San Antonio: The Spurs retired David Robinson's number 50 before their game against the Jazz on Monday, made possible by the return of both Duncan and Parker to the Spurs lineup. The very next day, Robinson was traveling to Cincinnati on a private jet when the plane made an emergency landing Tuesday at Texarkana Regional Airport after the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit. Said a relaxed Robinson (Ain't it great to be rich and retired?) ""The flight was going well 'til we started smelling some smoke. Hopefully it's not anything too serious."

Basketball fan Penny Marshall taped a message for Robinson that was played during the retirement ceremony: "I'm going to miss those arms. Kevin Willis has good arms, but not like yours, baby."
Pain Game: G Ron Mercer (left peroneal synovitis), G Anthony Carter (tendonitis in his left kneecap) are on the injured list.
