#34 Aaron Williams |
Aaron
Williams C/F Known For: Toughness, playing bigger than he is, fierce determination, ability to hit clutch shots, quiet demeanor. The Real Deal: The first signing by Rod Thorn remains one of his best. Perhaps the most valuable reserve off the bench, you always know what you're gonna get from him. Good defender, but usually overmatched against the bigger centers in the NBA. Has a surprisingly effective short range jump shot. If only he would shut up once and awhile... Joe's Take: No matter what, the man known as ATrain will always be the unsung (and unheard - Silent Bob says more than this guy) hero of the second stringers. And perhaps the heart and soul of the Nets. A Joe fave from the day he stepped on the court, he gives it his all, game in and game out, and somehow gets it done, despite often being "out-heighted" (thank you Mike O'Koren). You get the feeling that Williams straps on his jock, adjusts his helmet, and goes crashing into the brick wall of an NBA front line repeatedly because no one told him not to. With Mutombo out of the picture, look for Aaron to once again get his 20 minutes per night, as Mourning is rested often and Collins is moved around between center and forward. Or, maybe ATrain will play some power forward. Of course, all that assumes that Williams stays healthy (healthy or not, Williams has played every regular season game but 1 in the last three years). In any case, watch out for the Nets' Soul Train. Aaron Williams stats and bio: click here.
