Nicknames: "Twin" is what the Nets staff has settled on – Jason's twin Jarron plays for the Utah Jazz. "The Big Flopper", "The Right Twin" and "Fallin Collin" are some of the nicknames that our readers came up with.

Jason Collins – C
Known For: Intelligence on and off the court, rebounding, positioning, defense and all the intangibles needed as a role player in the NBA.

The Real Deal: Collins was expected to see far less time last season with the arrival of Dikembe Mutombo. Only it turns out that Collins is the perfect fit for this Net offense - unselfish, hustling, not looking to score (and all but incapable of finishing around the basket) but willing to do all the dirty work, and best of all, intelligent. No surprise Collins is here and Deke is not. With two years of NBA action under his belt, and yet another challenge forthcoming from Alonzo Mourning over playing time and starter's minutes, the bet here is that Collins once again is a vital part of the Nets success.

Joe's Update:
Remember when the Nets acquired Collins as part of the Eddie Griffin trade on draft day 2001? That's right - you said, "is this guy out of his mind?". Well, aside from the fact that Collins didn't exactly have a reputation as a player that everyone had to have coming out of college, would you even trade Collins for Griffin straight up right now? You look at Twin, watch him run into disaster nearly every time on follow-ups around the basket, and you think this guy can't make it work. As long as the Nets don't need to count on him to score, he does just about everything else correctly, from rebounding to positioning to defense. On a team full of high-flyers, Collins is invaluable for doing everything else that no one else ever wants to do in the NBA these days. And he's just as valuable for that reason as the other Jason on this squad, in his own way.
