Richard Jefferson – F
Known For: Great leaping ability and athleticism, defensive prowess, moves to the hoop, unbridled enthusiasm, confidence bordering on cockiness.

The Real Deal: What a first year as a starter. RJ, plugged in to replace Keith Van Horn, added everything that VH was not - energy, enthusiam, defense, toughness and yet another running mate for Jason Kidd. Jefferson expanded on his shooting range, and after a mid-season, wall-crashing slump, rounded out into an (almost) complete NBA forward. Sure, there are nights he can't shoot straight, and he may never be known as an outside threat, but watch him read the defense, free himself and get up some mad hops for an 'oop pass from Kidd and you know that this kid is gonna be a star.

Joe's Update: The Bright Light of East Rutherford, Richard Jefferson is the most engaging, happy-to-be-here member of the Nets. He's confident - he's good and getting better, and he knows it - yet it seems like he continues to work on improving all phases of his game, determined not to waste his time alongside Kidd and his quest for a championship. Impressively, he was named to be a member of the USA Basketball squad over the summer. His acrobatics continue to amaze - he can literally re-position his body in mid-air with ease and seemingly at will - making him the perfect running mate for the Nets' fast break machine. If he continues to develop his shooting range, and gets more consistent with everything (how about developing a mean streak, RJ?), he's a future All Star. Anybody miss Keith Van Horn, or feel like trading RJ for Eddie Griffin, now? Don't think so.
