Jason Kidd – G
Known For: Sixth-sense court vision, impossible passes, rebounder and assist maker, never say die mentality, defensive intensity, hitting the clutch shot, leadership and toughness.

The Real Deal: Is this the year the man finally gets some rest? Jason Kidd does seemingly everything for the Nets, including play too many minutes, mostly out of necessity. For two years and two consecutive NBA Finals appearances since he became a Net, we've all be treated to the best basketball of our lives, haven't we? But isn't it time to get the man some rest? Here's hoping the combo of Zoran Planinic, the rookie, and the vet Doug Overton can give the man some quality rest. Kidd is a savant with the basketball, finding seemingly out-of-play teammates with impossible passes for easy baskets, and possesses the ability to run a fast break by himself, start to finish: crash the defensive boards, drive down the cour and make the right pass to a teammate for the score. Kidd is an above-average defender, especially in crunch-time. Sometimes he tries to take too much of a risk in search of an easy basket, leading to more turnovers than desired, and he could be a better (that is, a higher percentage) shooter, but his leadership and determination more than offset any failings.

Joe's Update: If he gets more rest, will he make more shots? Though it's never been his game, more and more the Nets and Kidd are looking like they couldnt find the basket from the outside if if they painted Byron Scott's face above the rim. Kidd, more than anyone, wants to deliver a championship to NJ (granted, for his own self-serving reasons) and signed the more than $100 million deal to do so. He'll lead, he'll rebound, he'll defend, he'll even score if he has to, but if he isn't rested properly after the long summer playing for the US squad in the qualifiers (and alleged feud with Byron Scott), the Nets are toast come playoff time. The player you need to worry about the least (unless, Dear God, he gets injured for a long stretch) on this Nets team, and their unanimous MVP player, he'll still only take them so far. Make some shots, Jay, and help those around you make theirs, and this will make everyone feel better. You know what they say, Jason - third time's a charm.
