Kenyon Martin – F
Known For: Aggression and attitude, serious leaping ability, inside scoring ability, physical defensive presence and shot blocking ability, footspeed,

The Real Deal: Anger management. Check. Low post moves. Check. The beginnings of a turn-around hook shot. Check. A bit more range on the jumper. Check. Defensive prowess. Check. Intensity. Mastered. Now, all Kenyon Martin needs to do to take it to the next level is add consistency, up his numbers a bit, and demonstrate an unstoppable go-to move or two, and it's on to All Star status. Martin needs to continue to attack every game, especially defensively, as if it is his last, and combined with Alonzo Mourning's freakish ability to be aggressive, make sure that points are hard to come by against the Nets. Using the maximum contract snub as motivation, you better believe that Martin wants to show the world that he's the devil in the Swamp.

Joe's Take: Face it - playing alongside Jason Kidd, Martin will get his time on Sportscenter and hopefully prove his case to the world that he's an All Star (and deserving of that max. contract). I would fully expect Martin, barring injury or a setback with his on-court emotions, to take that slight and use it to drive the Nets to even greater heights. It seems that only thing that can stop Kenyon is Kenyon (or injury, which seems likely as the Nets open the season with KMart on the shelf with an injured thumb). With Kidd needing a number 2, and Mourning not physically up to the challenge, it's all about how Kenyon Martin got his groove (and his mega-contract) back in 2003 - 2004. Without that happening, there is no chance of a third attempt at winning an NBA Championship. Yes, he's that important to the team.
