Rodney Rogers – F/C
Known For: Instant offense, three point threat, tough defender, makes big plays, can play all three front line positions.

The Real Deal: So much for the best-laid plans. Rod Thorn signed Rogers in the hopes that he would be the outside shooting threat off the bench last season. He showed up out of shape and round, got himself injured, and didn't make a whole lot of shots.
And Netsfans certainly took him to task for that. After all, fat, dumb and all those misses from outside don't win you any favors around Nets-land. We said he could lead the team in scoring in last season's analysis - turns out all he did was lead the team in eating. Needless to say, after coming into camp in much better shape this season, bigger things are expected from him (if you'll pardon the pun).

Joe's Update: Will Rodney be fat, or phat, in 2003 - 2004? Hold the fat jokes, folks - at least for now. So, can Rodney do the things he was supposed to do last season this year?
He'll be carrying the burden of unfulfilled expections around like a lead anchor unless he makes outside shots. And lots of them. You can almost picture the Nets' brass hiring self-help guru Tony Robbins to help Rogers visually make all those three-pointers in his mind, and push away the Donuts and the Wendy's. Run, Rodney - don't walk - into the arms of the Nets' high-powered fast-break offense and make some contributions, will you? Regain that shooting stroke and all will be forgiven.
