#8 Tamar Slay |
Tamar
Slay G Known For: Sleeper, overlooked second round pick in 2002 out of Marshall had an uneven rookie season, but displayed enough potential to stick around again this season. Continues to write a guest column for the YES Network. The Real Deal: Who is Tamar Slay? Is he a scorer? A shooter? A slasher? Seems like we didn't see enough of him to be certain. We know more about his thoughts than about his basketball performance thanks to his column. That can't be good. The Nets love his potential, but he needs to show more, especially on the defensive end, to get minutes (or make the active roster). And let's face it - if he could make shots from outside consistently, he'll be golden. How he'll be used, or if he'll be used at all, remains to be seen. Joe's Update: Is Tamar the Slayer the next Brandon Armstrong, or more in the mold of a Lucious Harris? It appears that Slay would need consistent minutes to make a contribution, and the only way he gets those is if he shows the world he can make shots from outside (or one of the guards gets hurt - yeesh). As on the fringe, realistically, as Armstrong, on this ten-plus deep Net roster, but with more goodwill built up from a rookie season in which he showed more flashes of performance than Brandon Benchstrong. Will he kill or be killed? Only Byron Scott and crew know for sure. Tamar Slay's' stats and bio: click here.
