Nicknames: You hardly know him, but that didn't stop skeptical Netsfans from wallpapering Rodney with just about every name in the book. A sample: "The Kerry Kittles Experience", "Rodney Whoford", and Rodney "Couldn't make it with the Memphis @&%!^# Grizzlies" Buford. More here.

Rodney BufordG
Known For: Offense. Offense. And more offense. Multiple stops around the NBA as a second rounder from '99. What else? Beats us. Know more about Rodney? Email Joe and fill him in, and he'll post it and give you credit for it.

The Skinny: Afraid I can't get a good feel for Rodney thus far. His "all-offense, all-the-time" rep seems justified thus far, but there have been reports from camp that he's playing some defense. All he wants is a chance, apparently, to replace some of the offense that Kerry Kittles once provided. On this Net roster, with decent playing time, should easily average double figures in scoring. He gets that decent playing time if he commits on the other end. Kittles he ain't, but it might turn out to be an inexpensive way to get some instant offense for this Net squad. We'll see.

The Concern: Can he score more than he gives up? I don't think anyone worries about Rodney's offensive skills (provided he doesn't start pulling an Iverson), but can he stay in front of his man? The Nets' system can be forgiving defensively, especially with Kidd out there cheating, but without JKidd, Martin and Kittles, can Buford survive?

Joe's World View: Honestly, I wasn't in love with this pickup. Journeyman offensive player fitting into the Nets' motion offense? No problem. Defensively, as a replacement for Kittles? Big problem. But I don't know enough about ol' Rod to tear him down completely. So far this preseason, he seems determined to prove Joe wrong. Let's hope he's part of a rotation between Ron Mercer, Zoran Planininc and even Richard Jefferson for the shooting guard position. Anyone who can make an outside shot is ok in my book. Rodney, go prove us wrong, now, ya hear? Meanwhile, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he's not Dennis Hopson Jr.

Joe's Prediction: 12.0 PPG, 2 Rebounds, 1.5 Assist, 1 steal and 23 minutes per game averages.
