2005 NBA Draft - June 30, 2005
Draft Feedback | Who Had Wright In The Office Pool?
"Last night (Monday night) around eleven o’clock when we finished up. We determined that we would take Wright if he was available." And that's how Antoine Wright became a Net, or so Rod Thorn would have you believe. The old face-saving "he was ours all along" or a pick made when the guys you really wanted were gone? You be the judge, but for now, Wright is penciled in for a rotation spot off the bench.

"When you look at our team, we had an inconsistency in our wing players coming off the bench for the biggest part of the year. I think Antoine can help us in those areas, plus he is a very good shooter and a very good defender. Those are the kind of players that we like." Read all of Rod Thorn's press conference on the draft here.

Anyone see that coming? The Nets choose 6' 7" G/F Antoine Wright from Texas A&M with their first round pick (#15) in the draft, passing on such available forwards as Hakim Warrick, Danny Granger, and Joey Graham. Wright's college stats can be found here.

In the second round at #43, the Nets go foreign again and pick Serbia & Montenegro 7' 1" C Mile Ilic (just missing out on Pitt F Chris Taft).

Other notable draft news: Utah C Andrew Bogut goes (no surprise) #1 to the Bucks; four national champion NC'ers go in the top 14 picks (M. Williams #2 to Atlanta, Felton #5 to Charlotte, May #13 to Charlotte and McCants #14 to Minnesota); Charlie Villanueva went to the Raptors at #7; the Knicks get their man Channing Frye at #8, and Utah and Portland trade picks (Utah got the #3 pick and drafted PG Deron Williams from Illinois, while Portland got the #6 pick and drafted G Martell Webster plus the #27 pick and a future first rounder).
