Grizzled And Bitter
Off to Memphis, then, where the team is still on the block (the knuckleheads that made the bid last year, Brian Davis and Christian Laettner, are back with another offer), Pau Gasol still wants out, the coach is interim, and the losses have mounted. But, the Nets are not exactly lighting the world on fire, so is this the team they need to straighten things out? The Griz give up more than 105 points per game, so no offensive troubles should be on the horizon for the Nets. Time to get back on track, take advantage of a team further in the depths than they are, and find a way to win.

Why Should You Watch? Whoo, this is getting harder and harder to write...well, for starters, the Nets have to win at some point, why not in Memphis? Pau Gasol is someone the Nets would love to have inside, and don't discount the fact that he may yet wind up in NJ next year (strong denials aside). Vince Carter needs a breakout game, and who can stop him on this squad (besides himself)? Richard Jefferson should be able to get some minutes as he continues to round into shape, while Jason Kidd had more rest than expected on Saturday night. Offense should flow smoothly against the Griz, but Lord help them if they can't capitalize, or worse yet, they decide to play no defense...

The Story From Memphis: From the Commercial Appeal: After breaking a 6 game losing streak thanks to a big game by Pau Gasol, Mike Miller said: "Whenever the meal ticket plays well, it makes the game easy for us," Miller said. "He made them double him and when they didn't he went to work."

"The last couple of games for me haven't been in line with the way I've played most of the season," Gasol said. "I wanted to bounce back and make an impact the way I'm supposed to for this team."

Pain Game: F Brian Cardinal (knee) and G Kyle Lowry (wrist) are on the IL.. PG Chucky Adkins (ankle ) is questionable. F Antoine Wright (elbow) is questionable. C Nenad Krstic (knee) is out for the Nets.
