1981 - 1982 New
Arena, New
Era First year in the Meadowlands Arena. Brown adds Otis Birdsong and former Knick Ray Williams, along with the drafting of Buck Williams (a smart pick, he achieves rookie of the year). 44 38 record is a 20 game improvement from prior year. Make the playoffs swept in the first round. 1982 - 1983 New Faces, New Psychos Revolving door continues Ray Williams traded for Phil Ford, who is then traded for Mickey Johnson, who is then traded with Sleepy Floyd for Micheal (not Michael) Ray Richardson. And Darryl Chocolate Thunder Dawkins signed. Colorful quotes and stories abound with this team (Dawkins fouls out of an NBA high 23 games hear that Jim McIlvaine?). Brown quits with 2 weeks left in the season team makes playoffs and is ready swept in the first round by the Knicks. 1983 - 1984 It's the Drugs, I Guess... Stan Albeck hired as coach. Micheal Ray Richardson misses half of the season with a drug problem. Team makes the playoffs, wins in 5 games over the 76ers in the first round, and loses to Milwaukee in the second round. Its all back downhill from here. 1984 - 1985 It's the Injuries, I Guess... Micheal Ray leads the team in scoring, Chocolate Thunder misses more than half the season and injuries abound. Still, they finish with a winning record (42 40) and make the playoffs before being surprise! swept in the first round by Detroit. 1985 - 1986 The Third Time's a Charm Albeck resigns in the off season, Dave Wohl replaces him. Richardson becomes the first threes a charm drug policy violator and is banned from the NBA. Dawkins misses another 31 games with a back injury. Somehow, the team makes the playoffs (on Buck Williams back) and is (youll never see this coming) swept in the first round by Milwaukee. Give them credit, they are consistent. 1976 - 1981 | 1986 - 1991 | 1991 - 1996 | 1996 - 2001 | 2001 - 2003 Archive | Backlash | Bio | Calendar | Champagne's Blog | Diatribe | Game x Game | History | Home | Joe Netsfan's Blog | Media | Opponents | Players | Playoffs | Search | Specials © 2001 Shawn Belschwender and Michael Kozlowski |
